Reflection On Being A Student
Of Lama Dondrup Dorje
“Before meeting Sifu I used to live a very stressed and meaningless lifestyle as a music student. If I wasn't getting stressed about various deadlines and exams, I would seek escape from all my problems in the typical student lifestyle of clubbing and drinking, yet my problems would still be there the next day. This continued until I became a student of Sifu after attending his Kung Fu classes at the University of Newcastle. Here, with Sifu using these classes as means of teaching Buddhist Dharma, I found that just by listening to his teachings, life outside the classes became much easier to deal with. The first summer retreat I attended in 1999 changed my perception of looking at things. With the teachings being so profound and powerful, it released a lot of trapped energy that I've been unable to deal with all my life. Afterwards I'd feel so much calmer and at peace, like some problem inside of me had finally been resolved. Sifu's precious teachings made my life so much more fulfilling and made me appreciate the important things in life. This brings me much closer to my family. The same is equally true of my relationships with other people. If it wasn't for Sifu's teachings, I'd still be completely lost. Not only is Sifu's teaching vast and extensive, he has the skill to help me relate to my own direct experience and make it extremely comprehensible. When comparing my life before meeting Sifu, many people have commented how much happier I look now . Personally I feel a lot more love, patience and concern for other people and want to work to strive to be a more helpful person to all.”
