Thubten Dawa Loday is a native of Cyprus. He works as an English Teacher and an English Examiner for the British Council in Greece. He has been a student of Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje since 1990.

"During the 1997 summer retreat in Greece, we were all at the beach one afternoon, and the waves were especially buoyant and ferocious, so much so that going in and out of the sea was difficult and often led to us being knocked over or dragged in, with sand and shingles ending up in our ears and inside our swim wear as we tried to regain our composure. Sifu was about to get back onto the beach from the sea when a strong surf of towering wave came down on him from behind and he went tumbling back under the surf. When Sifu got out again he was without his glasses. We all realised that it would be difficult to recover them for it would have been immediately swept away due to the ferocity of the waves. Much to our surprise a strange phenomenon happened before our eyes, the waves suddenly calmed down for no apparent reason, so much so that we were all able to walk among what was moments earlier stretches of ferocious surf and begin searching for Sifu's glasses. Within a few minutes, the glasses were spotted lying in the water and they were returned to Sifu. What was truly amazing was the state of the recovered glasses: there was not a single scratch on them while most of us had picked up scratches on our legs and arms from being swept over by surf that afternoon. We were also astonished by the fact that no sooner were the glasses recovered, the state of the sea returned to one of roughness and fearsomeness. Sifu always maintained that if you live in accordance to the universal truth of ultimate reality, then blessing of beneficial condition can be counted upon to work with you to facilitate the attainment of your quest under a much more favourable light."
