Gem of Wisdom for Daily Reflection:

Calming the Mind

Students practicing meditation in Italy

In the Audio Teaching, ‘Calming the Mind’ Lama Dondrup Dorje explains the importance of not having a busy mind, and distinguishes the difference between being busy and being productive, encouraging us not to waste our life engaged in a multitude of distractions. It is only by maintaining the right motivation that we can stop our mind from becoming busy in the wrong direction.

The need for meditation and for being with what you are doing at that moment is demonstrated by a story from the time of Lord Buddha, when a man who survived a shipwreck seeks teaching from Lord Buddha and is taught to pay attention to what he sees and hears in the moment. This is the method of meditation, and by following as instructed he quickly attains liberation from suffering.

Lama Dondrup Dorje concludes by explaining how to remove obscuration, so that clarity will be able to mature and blossom. To truly remove obscuration, we need to apply the Buddhist practice of meditation and bring forth a full awareness of our senses while remaining in the current moment.
