Gem of Wisdom for Daily Reflection:

Retreating from Wrong View

Buddhist nuns practicing confesion

In the Audio Teaching ‘Retreating from Wrong View’ Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje explains the importance of genuine confession, showing how all things begin with a thought in the mind and emphasising the need for discipline in purifying the mind.

Confession is about recognising when we have made errors when we make mistakes and taking the courageous step of turning back from wrong view and abandoning harmful activities.

Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje describes how our original nature has the quality similar to that of gold, which may be covered with dirt but nonetheless retains the same quality of pure gold. Our karmic debts may lead us through rebirths in the lower realms, but our original nature remains pure and unchanged. By the practice of confession, by experiencing regret and by actually taking steps not to make the same mistake again, you can reduce the weightiness of our karmic debts and open the door to a new future.
