Gem of Wisdom for Daily Reflection:

Abandoning Delusion

Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje teaching at the Pathgate Dharma Centre, Newcaslte upon Tyne, Englandn

In the Audio Teaching ‘Abandoning Delusion’, Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje describes how we fixate on a self-image which simply isn’t real. We are confused due to the presence of obscuration in our mind and as a result we see delusions as real.

Letting go of our delusions requires motivation, effort and a clear method to follow; but even when we have the good fortune to take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha the refuge we take is often not actually in the precious Three Jewels, but is in our own delusion, ignoring what is real. We become so involved in the image of practising Dharma that we fail to apply ourselves with mindfulness in what we are actually doing.

Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje explains that to abandon this stream of delusion, we need to cultivate a life of simplicity and contentment, beginning with mindfulness of small things in our everyday life and practising renunciation. Learning to be a good person first, we cultivate faith and humility, cultivating discipline in our conduct during daily activities. In this way we become comfortable with ourselves and comfortable in our interactions with others.
